L'IMO est un grand ensemble d'improvisateurs fondé en septembre 2010. Il rassemble environ 45 musiciens de toute la Suisse et d'ailleurs. Il est issu de la nébuleuse du label et association Insubordinations qui édite et diffuse depuis 2006 les formes sinueuses de l'improvisation expérimentale.
L'orchestre cherche à développer l'écoute et le jeu collectif, il expose des microclimats de sonorités, des additions subtiles, à la recherche d'un son unique, généré par une pensée commune, porté par le nombre impressionnant de musicien-nes qui le compose. Avec plus de vingt concerts et deux résidences à son actif, l'IMO a su trouver une voie propre et surprenante.
L'IMO tend vers une pratique où les instruments perdent leurs fonctions - et leurs sons - classiques pour devenir des artefacts sonores abstraits, établissant ainsi un rapport non hiérarchique entre eux.
Founded in September 2010, the IMO is a large ensemble of improvisers gathering together around 45 musicians from all over Switzerland and further afield. Born out of the amorphous Insubordinations label and collective that has been publishing and promoting the varied forms of experimental improvisation since 2006.
The orchestra aims to develop collective listening and playing, highlighting microclimatic sonorities, the addition of subtle layers and working towards a single sound which is driven by a shared idea carried by the impressive group of musicians making up the orchestra.
With over 20 concerts and two residencies under its belt the IMO has been able to weave a unique and astonishing path. The IMO tends to a way of working where instruments lose their traditional function and sound to become abstract sounding objects establishing a non-hierarchical relation between them.
IMO ist ein großes Ensemble von ImprovisatorInnen, gegründet im September 2010. Es besteht aus ca. 45 Musikern und Musikerinnen aus der Schweiz und anderen Ländern. Das Ensemble ist aus dem Nebel des Vereins und Labels Insubordinations hervorgegangen, das seit 2006 die gewundenen Formen der experimentellen Improvisation publiziert und vertreibt.
Das Orchester versucht, kollektives Hören und Spielen zu entwickeln, es lenkt die Aufmerksamkeit auf lautliche Mikroklimas und subtile Additionen, stets auf der Suche nach einem einheitlichen Laut, der durch gemeinsame Ideen generiert und von der beeindruckenden Anzahl der MusikerInnen, die das Orchester formen, getragen wird.
Nach mehr als zwanzig Konzerten und zwei Residenzen ist es dem IMO gelungen, einen eigenen und überraschenden Weg zu finden. Imo strebt eine Praxis an, in der die Instrumente ihre klassischen Funktionen und Klänge zugunsten abstrakt lautlicher Artefakte aufgeben und folglich in nicht hierarchisch determinierten Beziehungen zueinander stehen.
